1. Who we are

GRIEFWRECK is an app that helps survivors manage the financial and administrative aftermath of a death. We know the information you bring here is deeply personal, and we treat it that way. Questions? Write to Help@griefwreck.com.

2. What we collect

Account information: your email address, display name, and password (stored only as a secure hash by our auth provider).

Estate information: details you or your family enter about the deceased and the estate — names, descriptions, tasks, notes.

Documents: files you upload, such as statements, policies, and letters. These are stored in private storage and are only accessible to you and the people you explicitly invite.

Usage information: basic analytics about how the app is used (for example, that a document was uploaded), so we can improve the product. This does not include the contents of your documents or estate details.

3. How we use it

To provide the service: organizing your estate, analyzing documents you upload, and generating suggested next steps.

To communicate with you: transactional email like verification codes, payment receipts, and reminders you opt into.

To improve the product: aggregated, de-identified usage patterns. We never sell your personal information, and we do not use the contents of your estate or documents for advertising.

4. AI processing

When you upload a document, we use AI services to extract facts and suggest next steps. The AI only sees what you upload, works within strict rules against inventing information, and its output is always labeled with how confident it is.

Our AI providers are bound by their own data-processing terms that prohibit them from using your data to train their models.

5. Who can see your information

You. And only the family members or helpers you explicitly invite, limited by the permissions you set for each person.

Service providers who help us run the app (hosting, auth, payments, email, AI analysis), each under contract to process data only on our instructions.

We never sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

We may disclose information if legally required, or to protect the rights and safety of our users — but only to the extent necessary.

6. Security

Uploaded documents are stored privately and access is checked on every request. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we design around the assumption that everything here is sensitive.

7. How long we keep it

As long as your account is active. If you delete your profile, your estate data and uploaded documents are deleted with it. Some records (like payment records) are retained where required by law.

8. Your rights

You can access, correct, or export your information at any time, and delete your profile (and everything under it) from Settings. You can also contact us at Help@griefwreck.com and we will handle it.

9. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies only for sign-in sessions, and standard analytics (including Google Analytics) to understand how the app is used. You can block analytics cookies in your browser without breaking the app.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will surface them in the app before they take effect. This page always holds the current version.
